Coachella, a music festival that takes place on two weekends in the desert of California with over 200 acts, almost 200’000 visitors, several stages and art installations and I am right in the middle.
Coachella, also famous as an indicator for the festival looks of the upcoming season. Music combined with fashion and a touch of art, exactly what I love.
We arrive at the ground and first we have to queue. Queue for the festival pass, queue for the shuttle pass, queue on the entry, queue for the ID-Check, queue at the water filling station, queue to get to the area where you allowed to drink alcohol.
Fashion:
I don’t see a lot of innovative looks. Many floppy hats, glitter-tattoos, and a lot of skin.
Initially I think I am about to discover a new trend: the cowboy/cowgirl look with a triangular bandana in front of mouth and nose. But just a bit later I recognize that it is just a protection against the heavy winds, sand and dust that swirls through the desert air.
Today I go for a look all in white with little details in the colours of the desert. Do you like it?
Music:
When media talks about Coachella, then it is usually about the looks of the stars and starlets. But basically Coachella is about music…this is something one should never forget!
We walk to the Sahara tent where 2manydj’s are perfoming. Phat beats, amazing video animations, paired with desert wind and a picturesque sunset: Priceless!
We stay at the Sahara tent, because Underworld is scheduled. A packed tent, a stunning laser show and we all got carried away by their energy and music. With „born slippy“ the crowd freaks totally out.
We walk back to the Biergarden with the best view to the Coachella stage, where all the headliners perform.
Ellie Goulding tries to charge the atmosphere with her squeaky voice: fail! We prefer to check out the Gobi tent to listen to Parov Stelar together with Cleo Panther; a stunner!
We quickly stop at the outdoor stage, where JackÜ are dj-ing, but my feet want to rest a bit. Back to the „alcohol area“ to our observation point.
A video of Prince performing Radiohead’s „Creep“ flickers on the Coachella stage screen: a goosebumps moment!
We grab a beer and enjoy our last act for today: LCD Soundsystem. Then we head back home to recharge our batteries for the next two days.
What I have learned on day 1:
It is not allowed to bring full water bottles in. Take a full water bottle and drink it just before you enter the festival area. Liket hat you have enough water reserve till you manage to fill you bottle inside.
Take a bandanas with you, it will protect you from the sand and dust.
Coachella Tag 1: Ganz in weiss, Cowboys und Musik!

next year, next year plans!
