Today I was at the re-opening press conference of Hotel Storchen. Do you remember, I wrote a guest post for their blog about two weeks ago?
The house with a long tradition of hospitality has modernized its façade, the restaurant, the bar, the lobby and 35 of the 66 rooms in a record time of only 6 ½ weeks. In peak times there were up to 400 construction workers involved at the same time, and this during six days a week, 17 hours per day, divided in two shifts. An interesting side comment, the Chef cooked also during the construction for all the construction workers, they enjoyed free meals and snacks from the Storchen cuisine every day! If I had known that before, I might have applied for a job on the construction side…
The new renovated and refurbished rooms are a successful mix between established luxury and a juvenile boutique design. Hand-painted wallpapers, high quality materials, beautifully designed details and last but not least a spectacular view shall make the guest feel very much at home. At the moment it’s still a four star hotel, but the aim is to obtain a fifth one next month and I have no doubt that this will happen.
I very much like the Barchetta, the hotel bar on the ground floor, which is much more open than before. In summer the windows will be removed, the inside and outside melt together and offer a perfect place to recover from exhausting shopping (probably in my case) or exploring the city, by having a light meal, a glass of wine or a coffee.
I could write much more about this amazing house, be it about their philosophy when it comes to sustainability be it the special culinary concept or the impressive history. But in the end, I think you have to experience the Storchen yourself, because experiencing is much better than reading!
Have fun!
